"Kelly’s vocals are a thing of beauty. Warm but powerful. Intimate and inviting. If you are looking for a reference point, she’s like a mix of Bonnie Raitt and Martha Davis from The Motels. She can tell a story, with the wisdom of experience, or deliver a pop song that sounds fresh and vital.
This might be a debut record, but you can tell these guys know what they’re doing. Blue Music Victoria Hall of Famer Barry Hills put the band together. His mission was simple: to find a bunch of experienced players capable of playing any music style.
Mission accomplished.
Hills found Brian Fraser (lap steel, guitars, vocals), Roland Kretschmer (guitars, mandolin, banjo, Dobro, ukelele, vocals) and drummer Nick Carrafa. He gave the band “a non-genre name”, so they could play “roots, blues, alt country, folk and rock”.
Among the sparkling originals – including the powerful duet ‘Thank You’, where Auty is joined by Carrafa – sit three cleverly selected covers: the Everly Brothers’ ‘Gone, Gone, Gone’, Maria McKee’s ‘If Love Is Red Dress (Hang Me In Rags), and Lindi Ortega’s ‘Tell It Like It Is’.
The playing is superb, perfectly complimenting Auty’s vocals. When you have a voice this strong, the temptation is to over-sing. But Kelly Auty realizes the beauty of restraint. Everything sounds effortless on PepperCreek Revival’s self-titled debut. Not a syllable seems out of place."

"Melbourne-based PepperCreek Revival boasts some of the city’s most experienced musicians, notably Barry Hills, Brian Fraser and Roland Kretschmer, with Hills CV including playing bass for Jean Stafford in the late 1970’s. Fast forward to a series of casual meetings where these long-time acquaintances had originally earmarked the band to perform session work for local artists. Those plans changed when Kelly Auty added her earthy vocals to the mix, as well as bringing along drummer Nick Carrafa. The result is PepperCreek Revival's debut album, a blend of alternate country and blues. ‘Train I’m On’ is the new single, out today, August 13, 2024, from Melbourne based outfit PepperCreek Revival, who have brought in renowned singer-songwriter Kelly Auty to front their latest project.

Featuring an incredibly talented band of experienced musicians, PepperCreek Revival came together to explore new ideas and create a new look & sound, delving into all the nooks & crannies of Folk, Country, Blues & Rock with lap steel, mandolin, acoustic & electric guitars.

Drawing their influences from artists such as Aretha Franklin, Iris Dement, Lindi Ortega, Yola, Chuck Berry, Emmylou Harris and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, PepperCreek Revival move seamlessly from slide guitar drenched country to mandolin and acoustic guitar ballads, to dancing rock ‘n roll.

‘Train I’m On’ was written by Auty, with music by Leigh Douglas (Boris) Conley and is a song about change and moving on. The old hometown’s full of memories that can’t be cleared whilst living there, so it’s time to go. Buy the ticket and step out of your known world because staying still is not an option when life needs a shakeup and your ‘heart’s drumming in time to the rhythm of the steel and the cymbals crack on the rail.’
